Colonel Norman D. Vaughan

Remember when we had time to do things? When we had time to play with our children? Remember the time when people tried exploring newfound countries and remote parts of the world nobody had ever been to? It was a time where people still had time for each other, to look after families and took challenges together, big challenges. The Antarctic Challenge 2009 – 2012 will be the most exciting adventure ever to be staged.

Today the refrain of many, both young and old, is “I’m bored”, “I’m not interested”, “I can’t do it”, “Why should I?”, “I’m not fit enough to do anything” or “Why should I bother?” A group of dedicated people have found each other through the most incredible circumstances, with a shared interest in staging probably the most difficult and dangerous expeditions ever, an expedition, which will never be repeated. These people will take the time to extend themselves to the limit, to face the unknown. After extensive preparation the group will take on an epic challenge and demonstrate through example that turning dreams into reality is not only possible for ordinary people but also that by doing so, apathy and depression can be challenged.

It is true! Our interest is to show the future generation that our past explorers were achievers in their own right and that opportunity to similarly extend yourself still exists. Anyone who sets their mind on achieving something can also be successful.

The documentary to be produced will be explosive in strength, endurance and will power. It will also demonstrate a high level of care taken to prepare mentally, physically and logistically. The degree of strength and tenacity needed to complete the task of crossing the Antarctic will really only be known from the day the team starts walking on the ice. The preparation is second to none but the reality is always different. Trekking approximately 800 km’s and hauling their own food and equipment behind them, these ten athletes and ten young people will show anyone that you only need an idea, a challenge or a dream to fulfill whatever you want to achieve in life.

Through the documentary this expedition will reach and educate many young people of today, encouraging them to look after their well-being, their body and to live a healthy lifestyle. The future of our children, grandchildren and future generations should be a priority to all of us and it does not take much to set a certain standard. Just try it. The same way these twelve (12) young people bring back the stories of many heroes and the memory of them conquering a new challenge.

“Dream Big and Dare to Fail”™is the motto of this expedition. Even today it is still the motto of “Colonel Norman Vaughan” who travelled with Admiral Byrd to the South Pole in 1928. Colonel Norman Vaughan celebrated his 100th Birthday on the 19th of December 2005. He passed away shortly after. This expedition will be held in honour of all past adventurers and their friends who participated in past expeditions to the Antarctic & the North Pole.
