Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia.

CITATION For service to the Australian Film Industry as a pioneer in adventure and mountain film cinematography, and to the community through support for international humanitarian work.

Michael Dillon is Australia's leading cameraman/director of adventure and expedition documentaries.

At an international level he has won more awards in this field than any other individual worldwide.

His documentary "Everest Sea to Summit" which he conceived, produced, directed and filmed is the most internationally awarded adventure documentary of all time winning nine Grand Prizes at International Mountain and Exploration Film Festivals worldwide. Filming this documentary, during a 4 month period in 1990 involved walking for 700 kilometres carrying a heavy camera the entire time.

He has made 5 Adventure Documentaries with the first man to summit Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary including the Grand Prize Winning "From the Ocean to the Sky" about a 4 month jetboat journey along India's River Ganges, and the National Geographic Special "Return to Everest". His latest film "Beyond Everest", about Sir Edmund Hillary's ongoing work with the Sherpa people of Everest, has won 5 International Awards.

Wade Fairley is a cinematographer and photographer specialising in adventure and natural history subjects. Wade has made three trips to Antarctica, two sailing trips to Commonwealth Bay, and a kayak trip around the Antarctic Peninsula.  Last Antarctic summer Wade spent 6 weeks kayaking around the island of South Georgia.

During October - November 2000, Eric Philips (expedition leader), Wade Fairley and Gary Kuehn completed a 25-day 210km ski/kite/kayak traverse of the South Patagonian ice cap from the Jorge Montt Glacier in Chile to Lago Argentino, Argentina. They used kayaks as sleds then paddled lakes and rivers into Argentina. It was the first Australian traverse of the ice cap.

Wade was recently producer/cameraman for a major ABC expedition in the Antarctic, filming the life of Australian explorer Douglas Mawson.

Tim Cope

Tim Cope is a 28 year old from Gippsland, Victoria who is pursuing a life of adventure, writing, and film. Tim, who speaks fluent Russian, and has guided in Antarctica, has spent five years travelling in regions of Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine by bicycle, row boat, skis, horse, camel and many other means. Most of all, Tim enjoys coming to know people in their home environments by travelling in traditional and local ways.  

Upon return from every experience he has been motivated to take his personal discoveries to schools, organisations and community groups through the medium of lectures, film and articles. Over time this has become his profession with the writing of books, articles and professional presentations.

In 2002, his award winning documentary,Off the Rails, On the Back Roads to Beijing, was aired on the ABC, and his book Off the Rails co-authored by Chris Hatherly, was released by Penguin in April 2003. He was also principle cameraman for The Yenisey Expedition, a film sold to National Geographic's A1 channel in 2002.
